SDSU follows the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a federal law that protects the privacy of student records, including academic, financial aid and billing information.
Because these rights transfer to students once they enroll, the university cannot share most information with parents or other third parties without the student’s written permission.

Without these authorizations, university staff are only able to discuss account details directly with the student.
Students enrolled in an approved SDSU program and who qualify for federal, state or institutional aid in the form of grants, loans or scholarships through SDSU may apply these awards toward a study abroad program.
Alcohol and Drug Awareness and Prevention Team (ADAPT)
The Parent Handbook for Talking with College Students About Alcohol is an evidence-based tool that supports parents in having conversations about reducing risk when it comes to college student alcohol consumption.
