Testing is by advanced online appointment only. Please schedule at least 48 hours (two business days) in advance. Schedule your appointment through RegisterBlast below.

If you are feeling ill, please reschedule your exam while you self-isolate. If you are required to quarantine, you may not test at the testing center.

For instructors: Please email the Rapid City Testing Center to request a proctoring form with your exam requirements and instructions.

Black Hills State University-Rapid City requires a visitor pass for parking. Please check in 15 minutes before exam to obtain a visitor parking pass from the testing center or main office to place in your vehicle. All valid and displayed parking permits from a South Dakota Board of Regents university are accepted.

Students must check in 15 minutes before their exam. If student is not seated by the exam start time, student will be considered late and will need to reschedule accordingly with instructor. All South Dakota Board of Regents holidays will be observed. If Black Hills State University-Rapid City is closed due to inclement weather, the testing center will also be closed.

A photo ID card is required for testing. Please bring a student ID, driver's license, government-issued ID card or passport. Scratch paper and pencils are provided. Any other materials, such as a calculator, must be preapproved with your instructor and notified to the proctor for usage per your exam instructions.

No food or drink is allowed in the testing room. Lockers are provided for personal items.

The center offers a range of proctoring services for SDSU, Black Hills State University and University of South Dakota students, as well as other students both in and outside of the South Dakota Board of Regents system. Students taking an online course through a South Dakota Board of Regents or non-South Dakota Board of Regents institution are eligible to have their exams proctored at the testing center.

Students with a documented disability are eligible for reasonable testing accommodations. Testing Center services are also available to students at other locations.

The Rapid City Testing Center is currently serving students for the following exams:

• Computer-based and paper proctored exams for online courses.
• Makeup exams (requires instructor preapproval).
• Reasonable accommodation testing.
• Nursing Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) assessments.
• ACCUPLACER placement exams.
• College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams.

Proctoring services for other miscellaneous tests are offered at other locations.

exams are national tests that students can take to demonstrate college-level proficiency for prior learning.

The South Dakota Board of Regents has identified courses that may be validated by CLEP exams. When a course is validated by an exam, the degree-seeking student receives a CR on their transcript rather than a letter grade, and it does not calculate into the student's cumulative grade-point average.

SDSU Rapid City Testing Center is a designated national testing center for the CLEP (we are site code 8188).

CLEP exams are 90 minutes in length and consist of multiple choice questions. These exams may be taken again if results do not meet required scores, but examinees must wait three months before attempting the same examination. Practice tests are available on the CLEP website.

Calculator: If allowed the used of a calculator, one will appear in the exam.

Photo ID Required for Testing

One form of personal identification is required to be admitted into a CLEP testing room. Your identification must be a government-issued photo ID card that bears your signature.

• Current passport
• Military ID
• Tribal ID card
• Naturalization card or certificate of citizenship

Taking a CLEP Exam at Rapid City Testing Center

1. Review the South Dakota Board of Regents-approved CLEP exams, view and choose the exam you want to take.
2. Register with College Board:

   • Once you're registered for an exam and pay the required $97 registration charge to College Board, an exam registration ticket is created.
   • You need an exam registration ticket to register for an appointment at the Rapid City Testing Center.
3. Scheduling with the Rapid City Testing Center:
   • Appointments for CLEP exams and payments are made on RegisterBlast.
   • To make your appointment, you need a credit or debit card to pay the $30 registration charge (includes a $3.50 RegisterBlast fee) and your exam registration ticket.

You must be an active, degree-seeking student (not dual credit or nondegree-seeking) and beyond the add/drop date of your first semester at SDSU in order for us to verify your credits. Additionally, this process may be delayed if we have not yet received your official score report from your testing entity. If these criteria are not yet met, we will continue to monitor and verify your credits once complete.
