Connecting Science with Our Community

The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics brings hands-on science experiences to students, teachers and communities across South Dakota. Through demonstrations, educational talks, science fairs, teacher workshops and other outreach activities, our faculty and students make chemistry, biochemistry, and physics accessible, engaging and relevant beyond the classroom.

How We engage?

  • Demonstration shows (Hands-on demonstrations for K–12 classrooms, schools and community events)
  • Star parties
  • Educational talks
  • Assistance with curriculum
  • Judging for local and regional science fairs

The department's goal is to act as a resource for students and teachers statewide. It also has a long history of providing teacher workshops in the summer with a focus on increasing student interest and ability in math and science.
